the life of Mark twain (1835-1910)
Mark Twain is one of the greatest American classic book author in history. Some of his books are provide into the past, and most of the time he connects the scene that he wrote to his own past. This has been a characteristic that he used in almost all of his books.
In his past himself, Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835 as Samuel Langhorne Clemens. The sixth out of seven children was born as a healthy and active baby in Florida, Missouri. Sam grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, which he used for the setting of his book “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn”.
According to Sam’s statement, sometimes he found it hard to see his dad laughing. His dad’s character is 360o the opposite from the funny and humorist Sam. Young Sam was tending to be closer to his tenderhearted mother rather than his dad. Despite his coldness, Twain’s dad was a hard-worker who sometimes took 4 different jobs at the same time for the sake of his family.
Sam Clemens and his family moved to Hannibal and lived there at the age of 4 to age 17. This is a small frontier town in Missouri near the Mississippi river. He spent most of his boyhood here, which provide the setting of his books “Tom Sawyer” and “Huckleberry Finn”. The town was a splendid place to grow up, but unfortunately the crime level in that town was still high, and he witnessed a lot of death. He was only 9 when he saw a murder and at the age of 10 he watched a white overseer abuse his slave by striking him with an iron till death.
When Samuel was 11, his father died unexpectedly. From that moment, his family has been struggling with the financial condition and became almost destitute. Until he has to left his school after having completed only the fifth grade. Shortly thereafter, he worked as a printer trainee for a local newspaper. This is when his career as a writer begins.
Headed to New York and Philadelphia with some working experience, he finally found his passion in writing. He successfully worked on several different newspapers. When Sam was on top of his career, he has to return to his hometown because of the Civil War in 1861 and he started his new job as a steamboat pilot.
After that, Sam goes back to his original career. In a short period time, he already became a well-known storyteller. His first book that brought attention to the international world was his collection of his short stories which he wrote under his pen name “Mark Twain”.
Twain started to publish more books such as “The Prince And The Pauper”, “The Innocents Abroad”, and “Letters from the Earth” and he was He was honored in his later age with Oxford and Yale honorary degrees and became the most famous American author.
He was married to his wife Olivia Langdon for 34 years, and after a long illness Livy died. After he loses his wife, Twain become more bitter in his later years. He was unable to finish most of his projects due to memory faltered and many periods of depressed. His disorder become worst after he return to his addiction of cigarettes. In April 21, 1910, Sam died at the age of 74 four month after his youngest daughter Jean died from an epileptic seizure.

The adventures of tom sawyer - Summary
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a book about a young imaginative boy name Tom. The plotting of the story is basically about some sudden experience that leads Tom from his childish boyhood into the real young adulthood. The book is very realistic, it involves a lot of life lesson such as romance, friendship, kinship, and problem solving.
Tom lives with his Aunt Polly, Cousin Marry, and his half annoying brother Sid in St. Petersburg. Aunt Polly became Tom’s legal guardian since his mom died. She loves him very much until sometimes she struggles to keep her love towards her nephew and her duty to discipline him in balance.
Tom is very clever and he constantly plays trick on Aunt Polly. One day Aunt Polly punished by taking away his day of and made him to whitewash the fence, but Tom convince his friends and tell them on how whitewashing is such an excitement. He persuades his friends to whitewash the fence and give him some small treasure in return. Aunt Polly was surprised when she saw the work was done so quickly.
Tom trade the treasure he collects from the whitewashing for Sunday school tickets, the tickets are also will be trade so he can get the award and receive a bible. He did all that just because he wants to get Becky Thatcher’s attention. Becky is a new girl in town that Tom fall in love with. Tom convinced her to get “engaged” by rending some agreements, saying “I love you”, and then they kissed. Tom’s courtship towards Becky is very childish even though they want to appear to act adult-like. Their relationship become collapse after Becky finds out that Tom has been engaged to Amy Lawrence before.
Shortly after his love hate war with Becky, Tom accompanies his superstitious friend Huckleberry Finn to a graveyard at night. Tom and Huck witness the murder of Dr. Robinson. They saw Injun Joe accusing the unconscious Muff Potter for the murder. It was such a traumatic experience for them. At first, they were promised each other to stay mum, but in the end Tom Sawyer's pity was moved. He brake his promise with Huck and he testified against Injun Joe. Since that moment, Tom was filled with anxiety because Injun Joe is still a fugitive.
After this incident Tom Sawyer become more mature and he take his responsibilities very well. His love story with Becky is also getting better when he took the punishment for Becky's mistake. He really is turning into a real gentleman.
One day Tom and Becky are wandering inside a cave near the town. Somehow they got lost inside the cave then Tom accidentally encounters Injun Joe hiding behind the rocks. Fortunately Injun Joe didn’t saw them and they eventually dins a way out. To prevent this unwanted situation happens again, Judge Thatcher block the access to the McDougal's cave without knowing that Injun Joe was trapped inside. After a few days, they found Injun Joe's body starves to death.
In the end of the story, Tom and Huck also found a treasure inside the cave, and the money was invested for them. The Widow Douglas adopted Huck and took him to their house to educate him. Once again, Tom tricked Huck. He said that if Huck returns to The Douglas he can join Tom's Robber Gank, and it works!
